June was a great month for me, and not only because England are doing surprisingly well in the World Cup. I found out last week that my debut picture book, Sarah’s Shadow, won an Honourable Mention at the Purple Dragonfly Awards in the ‘Picture books for children aged 6+’ category.

And it gets better! A few days later I received an email saying:

Dear Nick,

It is with great pleasure to announce that you have been selected as a Book Excellence Award Finalist for the following book and category:

Book Title: Sarah’s Shadow
Category: Picture Book

There were hundreds of entries from around the world and your book was selected for its high quality writing, design and market appeal.

Wow! And I was given over a Prize Package valued at $1,750, featuring loads of cool marketing aids such as bookmark templates and logo images to use on social media and in print.

I look forward to receiving the certificates in the post and putting them on my office wall! Hopefully there will be more awards to come in the future, too.
