Not long now until World Book Day 2018 is upon us! This is one of the most exciting days in the calendar for children, teachers, libraries, authors and illustrators across the globe, a day when everyone gets to celebrate books!

On 1st March 2018the 21st World Book Day will take place in the UK and Ireland and kids of all ages will come together to appreciate reading (interestingly, the rest of the world celebrates World Book Day in late April). The main aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to enjoy reading books by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own. That’s why, thanks to the generosity of National Book Tokens Ltd, publishers and booksellers, millions of book tokens are sent to children and young people across the country on this special day.

For my part, I will be spending the day visiting Astbury Lane Nursery and Mossley CE Primary School here in Congleton to do book readings. Having already raised some money for the school with sales of my debut illustrated children’s book Sarah’s Shadow, I have been asked to go in and read the book to the various years, answer the kids’ questions and also offer some tips on story writing. Hopefully I will be able to inspire some of the children to pursue writing (or illustrating) their own books when they’re older. At the very least, it will be fun getting to celebrate books with them for the day!
